170.000 people joined the 37th pride parade in Hamburg

On Saturday, 5th of August about 170.000 people joined the 37th Hamburg Pride Parade. This year’s motto was "Come with us! Discrimination is not an alternative." 150.000 people accompanied the 20.000 participants on their way through Hamburg city centre. Numerous politicians lead the demonstration, including Hamburg’s second Mayor Katharina Fegebank, Melanie Leonhard, senator for social affairs and Johannes Kahrs, member of the Bundestag. Also Michael Otremba, director of Hamburg Marketing and Hamburg’s famous drag queens Olivia Jones and Valery Pearl.

More than 50 floaters, cars and many walking groups started on Saturday noon in the district of St. Georg to parade through the city centre of Hamburg. Before the parade, the pride week took place with many cultural- and information events. The 2017 parade showed many diversities:

Hamburg Prides focus for the this year’s campaign was their bid for the Euro Pride in 2020 (more information can be found here).
Two walking groups from “Queer Refugees for Pride” and “Queer Refugees Support” drew attention to the situation of *LSBTI people in Germany.
The group of gay parents (ILSE) and their kids were present with a colourful decorated little train. Queeramnesty Hamburg urged the compliance for sexual minorities.

With the campaign "Come with us! Discrimination is not an alternative." Hambug Pride Parade calls for a powerful and cheerful sign for respect and acceptance for gay, bi and trans people, in Hamburg, nationwide and beyond!
